Osagie Ize-Iyamu has emerged the Edo state APC Governorship candidate after the Direct primary was conducted on Monday, June 22 in the State.
Senator Hope Uzodinma, identified as the Chairman of the Election Committee announced Osagie Ize-Iyamu as winner after the primary was concluded.
According to Hope Uzodinma, he said that Osagie Ize-Iyamu pulled a total of 27,838 votes to defeat Dr. Pius Odubu who scored 3,776 and Osaro Obazee who got 2,751 votes.
Meanwhile, Ize-Iyamu is the preferred candidate ahead of the suspended National Chairman of the party, Adams Oshiomole, after he emerged as the APC Governorship candidate.
This new development comes after Governor Godwin Obaseki defected from APC to PDP.
The Edo state Governor who was disqualified from seeking reelection by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) on the grounds of having “defective qualifications”, declared for the PDP at its state secretariat in Benin.
Governor Obaseki has announced his resignation from APC to state house correspondents on Tuesday, June 16 after meeting with President Buhari at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
As at the time he announced his resignation, he failed to disclose which party he will be joining next. However, there were some indications he might be joining the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
In recent times, Governor Godwin Obaseki was in a running battle with his predecessor and suspended National Chairman of the APC, Adams Oshiomole.
